When your digestion slows down and a feeling of heaviness sets in, even the simplest days can become uncomfortable. Cascara sagrada is traditionally used in herbal medicine as a stimulant laxative to relieve occasional constipation.
This plant, native to North America, is known for its stimulating action on intestinal muscles, promoting more regular elimination and effective relief from constipation.
Available in bulk, it allows for personalized preparation and is a natural alternative to synthetic laxatives.
MEDICINAL INGREDIENT: Each teaspoon contains 1.5 g of dried bark of Rhamnus purshiana (Cascara sagrada).
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE (TEENS 12 TO 17 YEARS AND ADULTS 18 YEARS AND OLDER): 1 teaspoon (1.5 g) as an infusion. Infuse in 150 ml of boiling water for 10 to 15 minutes, strain. Allow 6 to 12 hours to see laxative effects. Take 2 to 3 times per week. If the desired effect is not obtained, take up to 1 dose per day. Do not use within 2 hours before or after taking medications or natural health products. Take a single dose at bedtime.
DURATION OF USE: Consult a health care practitioner for use beyond 7 days.
PRECAUTIONS / WARNINGS: Consult a health care practitioner:
– if symptoms persist or worsen;
– before use if you are taking thiazide diuretics, corticosteroids, licorice root, or any product that may aggravate electrolyte imbalance;
– if you suffer from kidney problems;
– if you are taking heart medications such as cardiac glycosides or antiarrhythmics;
– if you have faecal impaction or symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting or fever.
Reduce dose or discontinue use if you experience abdominal pain, cramps, spasms, or diarrhea.
KNOWN ADVERSE REACTION: Hypersensitivity may occur. If this occurs, discontinue use.
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not use if you suffer from:
– abnormal constrictions of the gastrointestinal tract,
– existing or potential intestinal obstruction,
– lazy bowel,
– appendicitis,
– inflammatory colon disease (e.g. Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis),
– abdominal pain of unknown origin,
– undiagnosed rectal bleeding,
– severe dehydration with loss of water and electrolytes,
- diarrhea.
Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the bag is not sealed.
